Webinar | LASIL IG on Courts and Tribunals Pre-Conference Workshop on Narratives in International Courts and Tribunals

The Latin American Society of International Law (SLADI/LASIL) Interest Group on International Courts and Tribunals is organizing a pre-conference online workshop on “Narratives in International Courts and Tribunals” on 25 June 2025. The event invites submissions that explore how states, non-state actors, and/or legal professional construct and advance narratives within international legal arenas. Emphasizing that international law is not merely a legal framework but also provides a framework and a shared vocabulary for international political discourse, the event seeks to highlight how legal arguments may reflect broader political agendas, regional perspectives, and the strategic use of judicial procedures to advance national interests. The workshop seeks contributions that examine how narratives are shaped, contested, and disseminated in various international courts and tribunals. Topics of interest include the role of regional legal cultures, foreign policy strategies, interdisciplinary methodologies, and the influence of legal practitioners and non-state actors in narrative formation. Ultimately, the workshop aims to deepen understanding of how narratives function as instruments of influence and identity within the international legal order.
