We invite you to a high-level event organized by Fundação Getulio Vargas’ São Paulo School of Economics (FGV EESP) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to mark the publication of the IMF’s 2023 Western Hemisphere Regional Economic Outlook. The event offers an opportunity to discuss recent developments, the outlook, and the policy challenges facing the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Diogo Abry Guillen
Diogo Abry Guillen is the Deputy Governor for Economic Policy at the Central Bank of Brazil since April 2022. He previously served as the Chief Economist of Ita? Asset Management and held positions at Gavea Investimentos, Insper, and PUC-Rio Universities. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University.
Rodrigo Valdés
Rodrigo Valdés is a Chilean economist and has been the Director of the Western Hemisphere Department at the IMF since May 2023. He previously served as a Professor of Economics at the Catholic University of Chile and as Chile's Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2017. Valdés also held leading positions at the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank, including Director of Research and Chief Economist. He has also served as a Deputy Director of the Western Hemisphere and European Departments at the IMF. Valdés has worked in the banking sector as Board and Executive Committee President at Banco Estado, Chile’s sole state-owned bank, as Director and Chief Economist for Latin America at Barclays Capital, and as Chief Economist (ex-Brazil) at BTG Pactual. Valdés holds a Ph.D. in Economics from MIT and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chile.
Affonso Celso Pastore
Affonso Celso Pastore is the President and Founder of A.C. Pastore & Associados, a consulting firm in Sao Paulo. He serves as an advisor to domestic and foreign banks, financial institutions, and multinational corporations. Pastore was President of the Central Bank of Brazil from 1983 to 1985 and served as the Secretary of Finance for the State of Sao Paulo from 1979 to 1983. Prior to his Central Bank appointment, he was the Director of Research for the Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas, a foundation associated with the Department of Economics at the University of São Paulo. From 1976 to 1978, he served as the Director of Research at the “Fundação Centro de Estudos do Comércio Exterior” (FUNCEX). Dr. Pastore received both his Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees in Economics from the Universidade de Sao Paulo, where he held the positions of Professor and Dean of the Department of Economics from 1978 to 1999. He has authored numerous books and articles published in major journals focusing on monetary and stabilization policies, and international monetary issues, as well as studies on agriculture within the Brazilian economy.
Cassiana Fernandez
Cassiana Fernandez is the Head of Latin America Economic Research, based in São Paulo. She joined the firm in 2011 as a senior economist for Brazil after working for 13 years at a local hedge fund, Brazil National Development Bank (BNDES), and a consulting firm. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of São Paulo and a Master's from PUC of Rio de Janeiro. Cassiana also served as a professor for an undergraduate course on Brazilian economics at PUC. Since 2019, Cassiana has also been the co-chair of the WOMT in Brazil.
Marcelo Kfoury
Marcelo Kfoury is an engineer with a degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of São Paulo and a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University in the USA. Currently, he is a full-time professor at the School of Economics of São Paulo at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV EESP). He was the former Superintendent of the Economics Department at Citi-Brazil and served as the Chief Economist in São Paulo until 2017. Kfoury was a member of the Citi economists group, headquartered in New York, responsible for macroeconomic projections, advising the treasury in Brazil, and serving institutional and corporate clients of Citi. He worked for 13 years at the Central Bank where he was the head of the Economic Research Department, a non-voting member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank. His team was responsible for coordinating research in the Brasília, São Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro regions, as well as the inflation models presented to the Copom.

Talita Moreira
Talita Moreira has worked at Valor Econômico since 2000, when the newspaper was launched. She was a reporter and a special reporter covering industries like telecoms, capital markets, and banking, and since 2021 she is the head of the finance desk. Talita has degrees in journalism and social sciences, both from Universidade de São Paulo, and a master's in journalism from Universidad de Barcelona. She has received the Abecip Journalism Award four times, and she was awarded the B3 journalism prize in 2017.
